Laurel Burch
Laurel Burch was an artist and designer who began by making jewelry by hand and selling it on the streets of San Francisco in the late 1960's. She had two children and was struggling to get by, but over the next forty years she became internationally famous for her vibrant, colourful artworks. She was a self taught painter and was inspired by travels around the globe.
Laurel was born with a rare bone disease, osteopetrosis. Her bones were brittle and broke easily, resulting in over 100 bone fractures. Laurel saw the desease as an advantage in terms of human wisdom. On September 13th, 2007 Laurel passed away from complications of the desease.
